Description:
One of three original Island-wide districts nominated and designated by the early Commissioners. Together they form the backbone of DCPC protection. The Coastal District includes a shore zone and an inland zone, protecting a variety of coastal resources.

generally, below 10-foot contour or within 500' of MHW; includes the shore zone, from MLW to 100' inland of the inland edge of beach or marsh grass and 100' inland of the crest of a bluff >15' in height; the rest is the inland zone; excludes most downtown areas

drinking water resource; fishing resource; wildlife, natural, ecological or scientific resource; cultural or historic resource; major public investment; hazardous
General Restrictions:
height and construction standards for inland zone, including site plan review; in shore zone, non-residential construction by special permit with site plan review
